I'm left with nothing, and EA gets my money. I'm pretty upset about this, the game flat out doesn't work and to make matters worse EA won't refund the game. I even opened the Xbox Accessories app and went into test mode with the game open to verify the controller was working properly, and it is, the game simply doesn't recognize the inputs coming from the controller.

The update didn't really help, the game still stops recognizing Xbox control inputs when I try to setup a new game, the only difference is it is not switching to keyboard/mouse, it just sits there stuck.

I did some research and found I should try to update my drivers, so using the Xbox Accessories app on Windows 10 I was able to do an update. The first time the controller basically stopped being recognized and the UI switched to keyboard/mouse control icons. For example, if I go into exhibition it stops working on that screen. The Xbox controller will work in the main menu and settings, however it stops responding to any input as soon as I try to setup a new game. playing this game with keyboard and mouse is atrocious.

Pretty stupid behaviour IMHO.I bought Madden NFL 22 on PC using Origin hoping to use it with my XBOX wireless controller and found out the hard way that 1. I had tried everything prior to this, only a reboot would fix it.

Due to a crappy USB cable, my controller would frequently disconnect while playing, causing the driver or whatever to choke on the input, and next thing I know I can't browse ANY of Windows' Metro apps, including the start menu, the Settings app, and just about all sorts of basic functionality: they just start behaving as if I had the Tab key or an arrow key pressed down. TBH it's borderline unacceptable from Microsoft that there isn't an accessible toggle for this one particular thing on Windows. This fixed my issues entirely, and it looks like a pretty durable solution. Not sure whether the unplugging had anything to do with it, but worth mentioning just in case. My keyboard did act up for a couple seconds at that point, so I fiddled around, unplugged my XBox controller, and then it started working again.

This time however, I wasn't able to disable the device drivers (button greyed out), so I straight up uninstalled them (button just below).

If none of the other answers work for you, I found a definitive solution to this maddeningly dumb issue.
